PhD Studies

Senior academics of the Institute for African Studies supervise a wide range of PhD projects. Learn more about them here.

Apart from individually mentored PhDs, it is possible to apply for membership in collobarative and structured three-year PhD programmes. Currently there are three such programmes in which the Institute of African Studies participates:

• The research training group (or DFG-Graduiertenkolleg) on "Religious Non-Conformism and Cultural Dynamics";
• International PhD Programme "Transnationalism and Regionalism since the 18th Century";
• and the German Research Foundation-funded PhD Research Training Group 1261 on "Critical Junctures of Globalization".

All three programmes are co-ordinated at the university's Graduate Center Humanities and Social Sciences - and they are part of the Research Academy Leipzig (RALeipzig).
